N FLA | Went out to the 5-6 month bred cow division of Puffy Enterprises. We seperated and moved these this weekend. Are you a BTO if you have a herd of pairs and heavy breds at one farm and medium bred cows at another? Seem to be picking these cows up from 0.90 to about 1.05....was thinking what Mark said awhile back. Keep it simple. Buy cheap at winter low, add weight, sell high. Make the weight gain and value added to original weight. Buying these poor cows at this time frame. I realized these cows should calve in January to February. I should be able to add weight grazing rye, sell them at the summer peak, and have a calf to boot. The only time I can really make that work is with winter grazing.
After sale on Monday I put a cool $13000 back in my account. So I venture to say I can put together another 10 of these in the next few weeks. Then I'll have to go back and look for more stuff to sell. Thats gross dollars I guess.
We just got this grass farm across the road from our crop farm. When our rye gets ready we can open the gate, and walk them across the road. Coincidentally every cow here seems gentle and will come up to the truck to eat alfalfa cubes.
