N FLA | Went out to fence off the sinkhole mine field today. Was down about losing a cow, but while there a cow calved. It improved my enthusiasm. Having fenced this area off eases my mind and i think we will keep hauling cows in here. I have it until Halloween. The cows have really cleaned up the volunteer corn and are eating mostly volunteer peanuts. I walked a lot and watched them. We have filled in with Florida Pusley and I've always heard cows love it and its nutritious. I found this research from Alabama, and wow. Look at the IVDMD. I guess that is basically TDN. Protein looks a little low, but volunteer peanuts are high in protein. I know it is hard to put weight on lactating cows while grazing summer grass and forbs, but the buffet seems to be doing it.
