Subject: Dodged a bullet

Last week my son went out about 10:30pm to close up a grain bin that he had forgotten to close up earlier in the evening. As he was walking to the bin he noticed some flames in the hay shed. He went to investigate and found some hay on fire, just starting to burn. Fire department was called and put the fire out. as near as we can figure out it started due to bottom bales (big squares of alfalfa) sitting in an area that was low and allowed water off the eaves to not drain away and rather soaked the dirt floor of the shed where there was not enough crushed rock to keep the hay away from the wet dirt. Over time it soaked up into the bales that were put in there in May. The 60X80 shed was built two years ago. We had about 150ton of alfalfa in that she'd and two tractors and a brand nearly new 3X4 square baler and accumulator. We ended up losing about 10 bales was all. Wow, the alternative could have been much different if he hadn't thought to go out to close that bin. Some One was watching out for us.
