Subject: chain maintenance

NE Iowa
was cleaning up equipement yesterday and wondering what is the best way to take care of chains afterwards? specifically all the unit drive chains on the planter being #1 concern. I spraued them all down with a can of chain lube. my uncle and cousin used to take them all off and store in a bucket of used motor oil.
what do you all recomend after washing everything off?
I asssume they need a new coating?
or do you leave them dry so they don't collect as much dust while in teh field?
