I think we all assume there will be acres switched from corn to beans this year but I think it is hard to get a read on how many acres could switch. I am going from 2/3 corn to close to 2/3 beans so I am switching 30% of my acres. I have talked to both a crop consultant and a seed salesmen this week and they both said there are going to be beans on beans and very little corn on corn around our area this year. I think I switch acres faster then most of my neighbors and I feel a lot of them stick to a 50/ 50 rotation regardless of futures prices. We also have a farmer in the neighborhood who has grown about 5500 acres of continuous corn and I think he put anhydrous on all of it again last fall so it doesn't look like he will be switching his rotation either. I am just curious what other guys in other areas are doing or seeing as far as acres switching. |
