Subject: My Project

Freedom, WI
I just finished replacing the gaskets on our Farmall A today. The valve cover gasket was the only one bad, and was leaking oil, but for a good learning experience, I decided to replace the head gasket, exhaust manifold gaskets, and the gasket in between the radiator and the head. Have to order an oil pan seal yet. The pictures were taken before I finished brushing the top of the block and head with a wire brush, so now they shine. I was surprised how much carbon had built up over the years. I got it put back together tonight, and got it running for a few seconds. When I drained the radiator, the drain plug (or whatever it is called) broke off on the inside, so I'll work on getting that out tomorrow.

I'm pretty sure this is the first time the engine has ever been opened up. Even though it wasn't much, I had fun doing it. Would love to do some work on another tractor. Now I just need to learn how to do a good job painting.
