Subject: Added Ram to a laptop and now it runs slower?

I doubled the Ram in my wife's Dell Latitude from 2 to 4 Mg's, to try to wake it up a little, and now it runs slower. Any ideas as I thought it would be plug and play faster easy..
Edit: Its a D630.
