Subject: Opinions on spray program with covers

East Central Iowa
This fall, we will be incorporating cover crops on almost all of our acres. I would like to get feedback on how to change our current herbicide program. Currently, we clean till right in front of the planter, then spray 3 pints TripleFlex + round up around 8 inch tall corn as a one pass. This system has been VERY successful and we do not have any heavy or excessive weed pressure on any of our farms. Our cc will be annual rygrass and tillage radish mix. May also try a few acres here and there with some clovers etc. for experimental sake. We will be chopping a few acre of the cover for forage for beef cattle, but the rest will need to be sprayed with a chemical application. The plan is to kill the cover crop about a week before planting and no-tilling corn into the residue. The question is: Do we make a seperate trip for the burndown? Or do we continue with the TriplFlex and round-up one pass, just do it earlier? I'm concerned that if we keep it in a one pass, that the residual will not last long enough. Any experience cc and no-tillers with opinions?
