Subject: A chain question.

Zabcikville, TX
Growing up, we have always used the shortest chAin that would work for pulling out stuck tractors, trees. Question is would a longer chain not break as readily? Ex: if you have 10,000lb pull and a chain with 200 links, resulting in 500 lbs per link. Now take that same pull (10,000lbs) and have a chain with 400 links, that results in 250 lbs of pull per link. What was the point in using the shorter chain? Or, is my theory completely invalid?
