swohio | Thanks to all who replied. Did end up pulling the vertical auger out. Had mangled the top end of auger. Was able to heat and pound back into shape, then welded plate to add a lot of strength to it. Put plastic back on and looks as good as new. I will tell anyone that if you are putting in augers that have high wear, put the plastic on, even if they are new. I just can't believe the almost complete lack of wear. I am assuming that the cotter pin came out and that allowed the pin to come out. Can't see that you could break it with the way I run it. The other pin looked like new.
