Cobourg, Ontario | Hello, guys.
So my father and I are thinking of apply fall bands of P and K with just a single disk fertilizer opener to minimize soil disturbance as we are in hilly erodible soils, so conventional strip tilling would work for us. We would try and get the band 4-6 inches deep, so not to burn the seed come spring. We would still apply starter fertilizer with our planter in the spring as well, but would be able to stretch out our time between fills because of the fall application. We are also thinking that by applying in the fall, more of the p and k would be available to the plant right away. My questions are, is there anyone out doing this? and If so is there any yield response to this practice? I'm also thinking of starting to apply alpine or similar products as an in furrow treatment to do along with the 2x2 dry fert band and wondering what I can see in the ways of response from that as well?
Comments, answers and suggestions please.
