Subject: Insulating building perimeter?

Southern Iowa

Been trying to decide the best way to intall foam board insulation around the outside of the new pole building shop and I'd like to hear how others have done it.

I'd like to put insulation down 2'  on the outside and then out 2' for a frost barrier.

The question is:  Do you put a temporary skirt board around the bottom for a form and pour the floor....... then remove the skirt board and dig in the insulation around the outside?
After you get the insulation dug in, what is the best way to protect the insulation that's exposed above ground?

I suppose another way would be to put the insulation in just between the poles (flush with outside of poles) before you pour the floor.  That way a normal skirt board would protect the insulation that's above ground.
Not sure how difficult this would be to do and if I'd have trouble keeping it in place for the concrete pour.

Any suggestions will be helpful.
