Subject: Tapping into an underground irrigation line for stock water

Texas/New Mexico Stateline
I hope I can make sense here....

We have an old 8" pvc low pressure underground water line. It has risers on it where it used to be used for flood irrigation. I want to install a stock tank at the low end and fill the line with water, with a float valve in the tank. I have enough slope gravity will push water into the tank. Now here is my idea:

The last riser at the end of the line is damaged at the top, so I am thinking of just cutting it off below ground level. Then put a piece of say 2" galvanized pipe down into the open line and cementing all around it with concrete. Does that make sense? We would only be dealing with gravity pressure, and that won't be much as there is only a few feet of fall. So probably less than 1 psi of water pressure, so I don't think it would leak.

The only other thing I can think of is dig up the whole end of the line and make a steel plug to go in the end with a pipe to attach the stock tank to.
