Subject: Irrigation control systems

Adelaide Hills, South Australia

I am after ideas for different controllers or systems to start/stop pumps and open and close valves. What do you guys use? Seems lightning fried another of my controllers!! The bores have between 12 and 18 valves connected to them and I would like to control it all from one central location or am I dreaming?. The furthest bores are  about a mile apart over a hill. All are electric submersible pumps.

We use 4 bores for irrigation totaling just under 100 acres. The submersible pumps are connected by mainlines, mostly 4" PVC to hydraulic valves in the field and each valve is connected to 2 lines of 1 1/2" black poly above ground with saddles and sprinklers on 60' staggered spacings. The Naan 233 sprinklers are on risers 3' high and the post holding it up has a hot wire that protects it all from the dairy cows that graze the grass we irrigate. The runs are approx 660' long and we run one line with 11 and one with 12 sprinklers at once. A picture would be good right!
