Subject: I need guidnace on turning corn stover into compost

I was thinking about doing a small scale experiment of making a compost that could be spread with a manure spreader out of all this excess corn stover that i'm getting from irrigated corn. I know little to nothing about composting so i'm looking for some guidance. Would I need some manure to get the process started? I do have easy access to hydrated lime(ethanol plant) if that would help
My grand scheme is to possibly collect a portion of the stover with an old stacker or something similar and make a big pile in a field corner to compost. Then spread that compost the following year. I wouldn't lose crop nutrients or organic matter both of which are important to me in the long term.
