Subject: Polaris 400 Sportsman- need pointer - how to change the rubber boots on rear axle

Fontanelle, IA
Hi, I'm hoping a fellow NATer can help me. I'm trying to replace the left rear - inner rubber boot that covers the splined axle shaft where it pivots via the ball-bearing/claw splines. My only issue is how do I free the splined shaft in the middle so that I can slide my new boot on? Do I just need to give something a few little taps to break something free?
