Subject: Towing JD 4760...success, I hope

SW Ontario
Well, we got the tractor home without incident. It took at least an hour of penetrating oil, channel locks, and hammering to get the disconnect lever to move. It felt like things moved inside, but I have a few questions. First, should the front output shaft (to the mfwd) be still turning? The book says to remove that shaft for towing. I had to pull it anyway, so no real difference. Also, it still goes into park and locks up. Does this all sound right? I thought that lever disconnected the whole transmission, but this seems like it didn't. I also had ground speed on the tach. Where exactly does that lever disconnect? I can't wrap my head around the parts book enough to figure out what actually happens when you pull the lever.
