Subject: I was thinking today about soil PH

Western Iowa
I went on a grid sample spree this year and have a bunch of data to sift thru......

One thing I have in a few areas is high PH. As I understand as a novice on soil biology that high PH is something you can't manage or correct.

Wouldn't multiple years of manure, then throw in a lot of deep tillage or even plowing???? My thinking is fields with frequent manure applications around here need lime regularly. Also subsoil here has a low PH, pretty much a given if I understand right, so wouldn't 'stirring' in that low PH soil over time lower the PH in the upper profile. I suppose the trick would be not just burying all the topsoil and nutrients?

I just about have myself talked into trying this on a 15 acre patch and testing again in 3 years to see the results......

what do you guys think?
