Looking to do a ring footer on a bin and was thinking of over excavating down below frost line(4') and back filling with gravel. Going to do a 4' wide footer by 2.5' deep with 6" cap on top for floor. Would save about 70 yrds of crete by backfilling with gravel rather than going down below frost with crete. Would the gravel keep it from moving with the freeze/thaw? What kind of limestone would you use for the fill? Cleaned, with fines, sand? thanks
