Subject: CellPhone As WIFI for home

Wife and daughter are due for new phones and of course, they want one. But they want to charge an ADDITIONAL $30 per phone per month for the data package!!!!! That is to be unlimited and that the phones can be used as a wifi hotspot. I am wondering if anyone uses their cellphone as hotspot like they say for their home internet service. We currently use Hughes and are happy with it but I can't see paying for both. If you do use your phone as the hotspot, does it seem as fast or better than the service you had before? I haven't checked yet but I wondered if the upload/download speed would be as fast. I would check other phone companies but for good coverage in my area, there aren't a lot of choices... Any info, you tech experts can pass on would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!
