I received this in a message today. Thought some growers would be interested.

You know the old story about the buildup of carbohydrates in alfalfa roots followed by a decrease during regrowth and then a buildup after a certain amount of regrowth …. Leading to the recommendation to cut at 1/10 bloom … That original research by Dale Smith in Wisconsin back in the dark ages was not published in a good journal because it could not get by the reviewers. The many people who have tried to repeat and perfect his results have, in general, failed as well. So here is a goose chase that began in the 1940’s that is still believed and cannot be proved or disproved. You would think in this day and time, 70 years would be long enough.
