Subject: Deep band vs broadcast P

In the March Successful Farming I received today there is an interesting article by Gyles Randall, a very well respected soils and crop professor at U of MN. Research at Waseca showed a negative economic return(8 bu/A corn, 2 bu/A SB over 2 years) for deep banding a half rate of P vs. a full rate banded or broadcast. Research also showed no yield response/advantage for deep banding vs. broadcasting at any fertility level or fertilizer rate. Makes the simple and less costly broadcast method of fertilizing look pretty good. Looking for any thoughts anyone might have on the subject.
