Subject: Help me to not to have to buy a $705 alternator!

Southeast Colorado
That's what the parts house wants for a rebuilt alternator for my 96 Volvo truck. It's a 130 amp Delco and doesn't look that special. The last couple of days I've been hauling round bales and the voltage will gruadually drop below 12 volts and then all of the sudden it will jump back up to 14 volts for a couple of minutes and then it repeats itself all over again. It's getting worse so I know my alternator is going bad but my goodness do I really have to spend over $700 to fix it? Heck the whole truck isn't worth a whole lot more than that!
