perryton, tx | Had a heifer go into labor at approx 10:30 this morning. After lunch she hadn’t made any progress and didn’t appear to even be trying. By 2:30 the situation hadn’t changed so I decided to investigate. My OB skills are pretty modest but I found the calf about forearm deep but the orientation of the legs seemed wrong and I’m sure I felt the calf’s muzzle where the forehead should have been. As I don’t know how to correct an upside down presentation I hauled her to the vet only to have the vet upon first inspection tell me the calf was presented correctly and they promptly pulled it. So either I was wrong or the calf rolled over during the trip and I’m wondering if I should have just been more patient. | |
