Subject: Saving the Farmall b from the weeds

Central MN
2 years ago, I got my 1945 Farmall b running. It had spent the past 35-40 years sitting in the weeds. I figured I would try to get it running and if I couldnt get it to go, I'd scrape it. So I bought a set of points, coil, condenser, plugs and wires and a batter. I tinkered with it and low and behold it started and actually ran well! It felt pretty good getting it going again after being left for dead in the weeds.

The first fall, I did the basic things, new tires, manifold, rims, cleaned the carb and changed the oil. Radiator leaked but I not too bad as it was caked with dirt. I drove it around the feilds and about this time I drove it into town and put it in the garage and started restoration.

Basically I took everything apart, replaced all the seals and cleaned it up. I'd hate to think the amount of wire wheels and flap disks we went through cleaning it up.

Iver the course of the last year we started body work and paint. My dad is pretty good with body work so he did most of the bondo and sanding as well as painting it. The hood was the most amazing thing as it had a pretty good crease in it where it looked as though a tree had fallen on it sometime. Dad knows some guys at a metal shop and they were able to roll the hood as well as weld up the hole in the grill for the hand crank.

Overall I'm really happy with how it turned out. Yes it cost alot of money to fix it up for a tractor that's not really good for much any more but I enjoyed the process, it feels good to have turned junk into a something g good, and most importantly I'll always have to to remind me of my uncle who gave it to me!
