Breckenridge, MI | Friday I had my cattle buyer come out and look at a pen of Holsteins. He told me $87 picked up with a 4%. The board closed at 107.50 which means I'm looking at a -20.50 basis on a load that I hedged expecting (hoping) for -10 to -12.
They're good looking cattle, a little clean up but still should dress 60.5 and grade >80% choice.
Which got me wondering if there were any Western plants buying Holsteins for any better price. $5/cwt in freight and they're across the Missouri River.
Is it really this bad everywhere? | |
