EC IN | Moving my woodshop into a new building soon. Building is mostly block walls. The main workroom is split level with 2x8 joists 16" o/c. It did have a low drop ceiling but I pulled all that down because it was just too low. The bottoms of the joists are 8' off the floor . I need to put up a new ceiling soon but not sure what to use. My initial thought was to use standard metal siding but the more I think about it, the more I worry about the metal being too noisy. Surely there is something economical that I can put up that will help dampen the sound a bit. I saw a program on tv awhile back where a farmer used acoustic metal panels in his shop ceiling to deaden sound, but I don't know anything about that stuff. Anyone familiar with it or are there any other recommendations of materials that I could use on the ceiling and help kill unwanted resonance? The room is approximately 30'x40' and I don't want to spend a fortune on this celing.
