Subject: Tillage practices along Susquehanna River

Northeastern Pa.
I have been doing soil sampling on ground I am going to farm along the Susquehanna river in Northeastern Pa. The Pope soil along the river seems easy to no-till into. When the elevation gradually goes up it turns into gravel/sand mix- Wyoming soil which seems very hard to even get a shovel into. This ground has been in a no-till program with soybean and corn rotation in the Pope soil. A no-till corn and then disked to plant alfalfa in the Wyoming soil. The alfalfa ground will go to corn in 2016. I wanted to see just how hard this ground was so I tried to plow it with 5 bottom plows and they won't even go in the ground. I have 30 years of no-till experience on stony hill ground but I am concerned this ground is just too hard to no-till. Can't afford a poor crop. What would you do ? Thanks.
