Subject: What is a "hot" ration?

Central KS

Reading the thread below about the feed lot screwup.  We just do cow/calf on alfalfa and prairie hay.  Don't really know anything about pushing feeders or the rations involved.

This year my corn crop failed, so I had it chopped.  So I'll be feeding silage for the first time.  Do I need to worry about transitioning the cows and weaned calves from pasture onto a silage diet?  Is straight silage considered "hot"?
