Subject: Downer Cow

South Central Iowa
I have a downer. Found laying spread-eagle. She has been low energy for 5 days or so and not wanted to feed; no calf on her or likely near-term. Most downers we've had have been older with low body conditions. This is a 7 year-old with a normal condition. No diarrhea, watery eyes, running nose, jaundice, or respiratory issues, except a wheezing from bloating.

Given calcium, magnesium, and glucose intravenously and tetracycline around noon. She is bloated so we ran a hose into her first chamber and drained the gas and liquid. She seems perfectly capable of getting up, healthy cow and legs are under her now, but nothing so far.

Is there anything else we should do?

Vet said it was not anaplasmosis. Seemed anemic.
