Subject: Precision Meters-finger Type

I feel that I should replace the backing plates on my 14 year old JD finger pick-up units before spring planting, because the "double bumps" are getting worn down quite a bit. I have been very satisfied with the stand that I have been getting, 38" rows, maximum planting speed 5.0 m.p.h. Using JD 250 moniter. Only twice I have been mad at stand, both times really small rounds, only way I could get that hybrid, no longer in the line-up, and if they try to pass that stuff onto me again they are getting it back.

Was comparing prices from last spring's catalogs, JD vs. Precision Planting. In round figures $20/unit more for P.P. Repower kit, or $15 more for entire new P.P. meter, over JD prices.

Forget the $15-20/unit cost difference (peanuts compared to most everything else nowadays): What would/have you done? I can see perhaps the Surefire seed belt helping, I can see the adjustable brush just one more thing to forget to do/turn the wrong way, perhaps the SkipStop cushions helping, maybe could drive 10% faster? Replace just some parts with PP parts, or just buy the entire unit new and be done with it?

Any experiences/thoughts/suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks Bruce
